Bringing down what a new customer costs you
How do I bring down the cost of getting a new customer?
By reading the data every month and adjusting: which campaign to hold, which to pause, where on the site people are dropping off. It is not a first-month job, because it needs data and data takes time. It starts once three or four months of measured campaigns are behind you.
It is the only one of the seven that cannot be sold on day one, and it is worth saying so before somebody else offers it to you. Optimising without data is moving things at random and calling it strategy.
Once there is something to work with, the job changes in kind: it stops being building and becomes deciding. And every decision has to come explained: what moved, why, and what to expect from the month ahead.

Questions
What people ask before hiring us.
- When does this part start?
- Once three or four months of measured campaigns are behind you. Before that there is nothing to decide with, and anyone selling it to you in month one is selling smoke.
- What if cost per lead does not come down?
- You get told why, with the data in front of you. Some months it rises because of season or competition, and that is information too. What is not acceptable is not being able to explain it.
- What is it compared against?
- Your own previous month, not industry averages. An average from another industry in another region says nothing about your business.
- How much does it cost?
- This is the part that runs on a monthly retainer and depends on how many pieces are being operated.
